“Doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results is insanity,” said Albert Einstein.
We all do it. We seek help from the same futile efforts in the same uncomfortable situations over and over again. Our expectation that “this time it will be different” keeps us in the same dead-end streets of the labyrinth, and the outcome never changes. Disappointment, anger, resentment, resentment, accusations…
“I had never looked at it this way, I feel very uncomfortable right now, but I needed this, thank you,” my client said quietly. She could not have expressed better the awareness she was experiencing at that moment and the surprise mixed with anxiety at the unknown of the sea of new options that lay before her. With this awareness, change came incredibly quickly, uncertainty gave way to self-belief, discomfort gave way to self-confidence.
With the touch of a coach in our lives, sometimes there is a small change in our perspective, which turns into huge awareness in us. What follows is a journey of self-realization with faith, determination and courage.
It is not easy. The feelings, thoughts and behaviors that we have been told are right throughout our lives, that we have accepted unconditionally and that we have been repeating constantly, catch us in our comfort zone, from a very familiar place. Somehow we believe that this is the only path to follow, the only option that can lead us to the desired result. As long as we continue to look from where we are, from the same angle, with the same glasses, the other options seem very distant, impossible.
However, once you experience that awareness, it is not possible to ignore it. With coaching, we not only discover other paths that we had never even considered looking at before, but also gain the power to confidently move forward on those paths by consciously accepting and embracing the different values, strengths and competencies that we have but have ignored. As we progress with determination on different paths towards the version of ourselves we want to be, we also know that “it can happen” with a little courage and a little faith. Yes, we know deep down inside that change is in our hands more than ever before.
Come on, a little courage, a little faith! Why not?!
